Privacy Policy

BLIP (“the App”) is a health and wellness application that helps you understand your daily recovery, sleep quality, and overall health trends using data from Apple Health. Your privacy is important to us.
Information We Collect
Health Data (Apple HealthKit)
BLIP reads the following data from Apple Health with your explicit permission:
- Heart rate, resting heart rate, and heart rate recovery
- Heart rate variability (HRV)
- Sleep analysis (duration, stages, efficiency)
- Respiratory rate
- Blood oxygen saturation (SpO2)
- Wrist temperature
- Weight and body fat percentage
- Height
- VO2 Max
- Active energy, total calories, and exercise minutes
- Steps, distance, and flights climbed
- Stand hours
- Walking heart rate and walking speed
- Time in daylight
- Breathing disturbances
- Mindful minutes
- Workouts (type, duration, heart rate, calories)
- Menstrual flow
- Dietary water intake
- Dietary caffeine intake
Data We Write to Apple Health
With your permission, BLIP writes the following data to Apple Health:
- Logged workouts (via Apple's workout recording framework)
- Water intake entries
- Menstrual flow entries
- Caffeine intake entries
BLIP does not write or modify any other Apple Health data.
Data Processing
- All health data processing happens entirely on your device
- Raw health data is never transmitted to any server, third party, or external service
- BLIP computes Recovery, Sleep, and Strain scores locally and caches only the computed scores (not raw data) on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework
On-Device Intelligence
On supported devices (iOS 26 and later), BLIP uses Apple's on-device language models to generate personalized score narratives and insights. This processing happens entirely on your device. No health data is transmitted externally for this feature.
AI Coach (Optional Subscription Feature)
The AI Coach is a paid subscription feature that provides personalized wellness coaching. If you subscribe to and choose to use the AI Coach, BLIP sends certain data to Anthropic, LLC (“Anthropic”) via their Claude API. BLIP asks for your explicit consent before any data is sent to Anthropic. No data is transmitted until you grant permission through the in-app consent screen.
The following data categories are sent to Anthropic when you use the AI Coach:
- Recovery and Heart: Recovery score, zone, HRV value and baseline, resting heart rate value and baseline, respiratory rate, SpO2, wrist temperature deviation, and calibration status
- Sleep: Sleep score, duration, efficiency, awakenings, deep/REM/core sleep percentages, sleep consistency score, average bedtime and wake time, and sleep need breakdown
- Strain and Activity: Strain score, zone, heart rate zone breakdown, active calories, exercise minutes, max and average heart rate, steps, total calories, and stand hours
- Body: Weight, body fat percentage, and Body Age estimate (when enabled)
- Workouts: 14-day workout summary including types, duration, calories, and streak data (when enabled)
- Water and Caffeine: Today's intake, goal progress, and 7-day averages (when enabled)
- Menstrual Cycle: Current cycle phase, cycle day, average cycle length, and regularity (when enabled)
- Heart Events: Summary counts of low, high, and irregular heart rate events over 30 days (when enabled)
- Trends: 7-day trends with averages and percentage changes for Recovery, Sleep, HRV, resting heart rate, calories, average heart rate, respiratory rate, SpO2, weight, and Strain
- Your Messages: Your typed messages and the full conversation history within the AI Coach
Raw Apple Health samples are never sent to Anthropic or any other external service. Only computed scores, summaries, and trends derived from your health data are shared.
Anthropic's commercial API does not use your data to train AI models. Anthropic provides the same or equal protection of your data as described in this policy. Anthropic's handling of your data is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy and their API Terms of Service.
Conversation history is stored only on your device and can be deleted at any time from the App's settings.
Reproductive and Menstrual Health Data
BLIP treats menstrual flow and cycle tracking data with heightened protections. This data is processed and stored entirely on your device. It is never transmitted to any external service unless you explicitly enable cycle data sharing with the AI Coach. Even then, only summary information (current cycle phase, cycle day, average cycle length, and regularity) is shared, never raw menstrual flow samples.
Menstrual and cycle data is not used for advertising, marketing, or any purpose other than providing you with cycle tracking insights within the App. This data cannot be accessed by any third party except Anthropic, and only when you have granted explicit AI Coach consent.
Information We Do NOT Collect
BLIP does not:
- Use analytics, tracking, or advertising frameworks of any kind
- Share or sell any data to third parties for advertising or marketing purposes
- Transmit raw Apple Health data off your device
- Use health data for advertising purposes
- Include any third-party SDKs (zero external dependencies)
- Create user accounts or require login
BLIP does not “sell” or “share” your personal information as those terms are defined under applicable privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
Data Sharing
BLIP shares data with third parties only in the following limited circumstances:
- AI Coach: If you grant consent and use the AI Coach feature, your typed messages and computed health summaries (scores, trends, and derived metrics as listed above) are sent to Anthropic for processing. Raw Apple Health data is never sent. You can revoke this consent at any time in the App's settings, which immediately stops all data transmission to Anthropic.
- Legal obligations: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or legal process.
- Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your on-device data remains on your device. Any transfer of the app or business would remain subject to the commitments made in this Privacy Policy.
Data Storage
- Computed scores (Recovery percentage, Sleep percentage, Strain score) are cached on-device using SwiftData
- All cached data can be deleted at any time through the App's settings
- Uninstalling the App removes all stored data from your device
Data Retention
BLIP retains computed health scores on your device for as long as the App is installed. You can clear all cached scores at any time. Health data is always queried fresh from Apple Health and is never permanently stored by BLIP.
Your Rights
You have the following rights with respect to your personal information:
- Right to know and access: You have the right to confirm whether we are collecting your personal information and to access that information.
- Right to deletion: You have the right to request that we delete your personal information.
- Right to withdraw consent: You may withdraw consent for AI Coach data sharing at any time by toggling off the data sharing setting in the App. You may also revoke HealthKit permissions or discontinue use of any feature at any time.
- Non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you or degrade your experience for exercising any of your privacy rights.
You can also exercise control directly within the App:
- Revoke HealthKit permissions at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Health
- Disable AI Coach data sharing from within the App's settings
- Delete cached scores and conversation history from within the App
- Uninstall the App to remove all stored data from your device
To submit a privacy request, contact us at support@blipmetrics.app. We will respond to verified privacy requests within 45 days.
Appeals and Complaints
If we deny your privacy request, you may appeal by emailing support@blipmetrics.app with the subject line “Privacy Appeal” and a description of your request. You may also file a complaint with your relevant state regulatory agency or data protection authority.
International Data Transfers
If you use the AI Coach feature, your messages and computed health summaries are transmitted to Anthropic's servers, which may be located in the United States. You will be asked to consent to this transfer before any data is sent. Please refer to Anthropic's Privacy Policy for details on their data handling practices.
Children's Privacy
BLIP is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Security
- Health data processing occurs entirely on-device
- No network requests are made except when you explicitly use the AI Coach feature
- The App uses only HTTPS for any network communication
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this policy.
